Wow... It has been years since www.selfso.com has been served online...
From 2004-2010, the domain languished on a yahoo hosted machine with nothing
but a blank html page. Then in 2011, it was moved back to home machine but
got neglected until now...
I've revived it for nostalgic reasons. A lot of information here are out-dated
but let's fix them as we go along.
le temps passe ...
[11/15/04]
There seemed to be routing problems on the part of the ISP over the weekend.
The access was cut-off during 11/12-11/15, but seems to be ok now.
[10/14/03]
Due to excessive email spam traffic, we've created a black list of domains
and individuals to ban them from sending emails to SELFSO.COM. For details,
please see our anti-spam policy.
[09/12/03]
Added favicon.ico for display in URL bars and book marks.
[09/05/03]
We have upgraded sendmail to version 8.12.9 and added Cyrus-SASL support
for authentication. With this setup, it's finally possible to use Outlook
Express or other email readers to send/receive mail to selfso.com. Previously,
without AUTH in sendmail, we will always deny mail relays, which prevent
users from using mail.selfso.com as an SMTP gateway!

The SELFSO.COM server (pomfret) has been relocated to operate under
Viosoft Corporation's
network. We are grateful for their gracious offer to host this site!

New Solaris 9 security patches applied. Server rebooted for first time in 6
months.
[12/14/02]
Thunder storm in Northern California caused the power grid to disrupt its
services several times. After a couple of machine reboots and frustration,
we finally added a UPS battery backup to the servers to avoid having to
deal with this sort of problem again. Power supply glitches has rebooted
selfso.com servers about 10 times this year. This number should be
reduced to zero next year if the APC UPS device does its job as advertised.
[07/17/02]
We added a link page http://www.selfso.com/poweredby.shtml to acknowledge
software that power this system.
[07/11/02]
Instructions and HOWTOs have been added to the INFO page. Those documents
describe how to use services provided by the server.
[07/04/02]
The web mail system for the site has been set up. It runs over the HTTPS
(SSL) procotol, and works very well with normal IMAP/pine configuration.
The package we installed is Horde/IMP (http://www.horde.org), and is by
far the best web email system that we have evaluated. We highly recommened
it.
[06/27/02]
The secure web server has been successfully installed. Apache-SSL now runs
on our website (https://www.selfso.com). For now, the SSL certificate is
self-signed for test purposes. Since we do not have a certificate signed
by a ROOT CA, your browser will warn/reject the certificate. A real
SSL cerficate may be obtained in the future should the need arises.

Most of the services have been restored. Unfortunately, the admin forgot to
backup the mailman data, therefore all the mailing list archives have been
lost! Shame on him. If you have subscribed to the mailing list before but
is no longer receiving emails from the list(s), please rejoin it/them!
We apologize for the error and inconveniences.
[06/22/02]
The web server is partially restored. ViewCVS, mailman list manager, some web
CGI programs, etc. are still offline.
[06/20/02]
The new server (Sun Fire V100), ordered at the end of May, has finally arrived.
This is a UltraSparc-IIe 500MHz with 512MB DRAM and 40GB IDE disk space. The
new server will replace the old Pentium I 100MHz that has been running
continously since 1995. As we make the transition, some services would be
disrupted. Please be patient as problems are being fixed.
[04/14/02]
The ViewCVS utility has been installed to display our open-source projects.
[02/10/02]
A new page about running OCTI Online Java applet on the X-pilot PDA has
been added.
[12/26/01]
The selfso.com admin has returned from a business trip in Taiwan.
Everything is functioning normally.
[12/22/01] -
The system admin went abroad for business on 12/13/01 and the network
has been left unattended since then. Unfortunately, the network
came down on 12/13/01 and had not been restored until it was rebooted
today by a friend. Please accept our apology for any inconveniences.
The admin is due to arrive home on 12/26/01.
[12/10/01] -
The SMC barricade router has been replaced: it has been sent to
Australia for usage at home. Meanwhile, we have replaced it with a
LinkSys wireless router. The only functionality lacking is the
wireless MAC address link permission.
[12/08/01] -
A new SMC gateway has been installed to replace the ailing Pentium I
100MHz server. We now also support IEEE 802.11b wireless devices.
Wireless LAN is such a wonderful technology!
[11/23/01] -
Custom Google search added.
[11/22/01] -
The domain DNS problem is mostly resolved as old caches have been
flushed out.
[11/21/01] -
The SELFSO.COM domain expired on 11/11/2001 and the registrar.com
(the domain registrar) disabled the domain and DNS on 11/20. This
caused the servers not to be reachable for sometime. Fortunately,
this problem was discovered and we paid for a renewal fee $150 for
the next 5 years! The next expiration date would now be on 11/19/2006.
The DNS change should propagate within a couple of days to all
nodes on the Internet as old cache get flushed out. We apologize for
any inconveniences for disrruption of service during this period.
[11/20/01] -
The look and feel of the site has been revamped: the use of frames
was dropped and a flash tool bar was added.
[11/20/01] -
Automatic daily snapshot of the OCTI robot SDK source code is now
working.
[11/19/01] -
Added FAQ to the OCTI Player project page
[10/31/01] -
The SELFSO.COM website is officially open for business.
